Of Knights, Princes and Princesses
Recently, a few chats with friends made me realise that quite a few of them spoke readily of subjects like being princes and princesses. Really warmed my heart that things like these are not dismissed in modern times... hmm.. :)
Even in this day and age, I think rare is the boy or youth that does not, at some point in his life, somewhere deep in his heart, yearn to be that knight in shining armour.
Transcending age, nationality and language, theres something there - about being that champion in someone's life, about that strength and protection represented by the shield bearing his master's coat of arms. The code of honour and chivalry. Above all, living for a cause greater than himself.
I remember the days in my backyard (at least, the place where clothes were hung) where dustbin lids, clothe poles, ('pikes') brushes ('maces'?) and whatever was at hand turned me and my brother, for a little while, into two warriors locked in battle.
Sure it was imaginary, but i think is something deep being expressed thru it. No questions asked, no self concious remarks, just simply 'you ready for one more?' and the sweaty nod 'ok last one...'
That was really fun :p
I suspect it might be the same for sisters... to be that princess swept off her feet by one that she deems worthy of her love. To be the beauty of the story... (if anyone eventually reads this, correct me if im wrong. :)
Fast forward to modern day living, does this have any place? Probably not at first glance... we have all fallen short... Knights might be more concerned with self and wealth than causes and chivalry. Princesses too, might have sold their love cheaply and have been hurt by a multitude of broken promises. I guess... myself included.
Yet, in the humility that comes with a failure acknowledged, there is a real hope that calls out once more to the heart of man and woman.
The call from the Creator. The call of the one who designed our hearts to have that yearning to be that knight, that princess, that protector, that beauty.
The one who, in the midst of a broken world, once again calls for obedience, submission, strength, peserverance, and a journey on the road less traveled.
The once who makes life as a Prince and Princess a reality once again, because He is the King of all Kings :)
