Last Day: Two crosses and warmed hearts

"I can still remember that night so clearly..." - Boss

On my final day in the department, life is surreal... a couple of masks finally fall off, and the clock striking 4pm finds boss n me in His Grace, in more ways than one.

Finally, talking openly about faith... finally, hearing his testimony of miraculous healing. Oh, how he is so much more than "just a choir member". So the story goes:

...A young man, wasted and reduced to skin and bones, suspected struck with cancer. He recounts how in the sheer injustice of it all, he cries out to God in perhaps the most intense prayer of his life one night in the quiet of his bedroom.

And how a strange, pure, warmness touched his heart, and spreaded to his whole body.

"...That night was the most peaceful sleep I've had since it all began..."

He immediately joined the church choir after that...

That's my boss! :) Oh the stories behind every life you see quietly serving in church....

Then came another clincher... there were those army days, how he literally saw a ghost (one day someone has so got to send a prayer team to Tekong) and prayed to God who delivered him... and how after that he wanted to find a cross, and went to the jewelery shop but found those too expensive. On the way home, he found one(!) right there, along the road, and kept it with him for some years before losing it.

Really brought to mind my own walk along the neighbourhood, of asking God 'Who are You? Where are You..?!' and the same thing happening - finding a battered cross on the road. As a young teen: 'A sign from GOD'...

I brought it to the army too, kept it in my wallet, stared at it - mangkok hairstyle n all - and i later, sadly, lost it as well. Mouthed prayers with it... and more.

We stared at each other... a generation apart, but both touched by His amazing grace. A lifetime changed.

How strange and wonderful God is...
