(means bless you, in cantonese. that encompasses most of my repetoire of that language)
The city of Hong Kong, or at least Kowloon where I spent the weekend, isn't some place one would retire to... on first impression it came across as caustrophobic, hard-nosed, stressful and impatient city. Its saving grace would probably be decently priced cantonese fare...
... and the church of God.
Back from HKBC, and it was quite a trip... ministry wise, especially thankful for the low intensity, as its been quite a season already.
Spent the first couple of days waiting upon the Lord and settling in, and it was miraculous how a message came together as each man took his piece of the puzzle and offered it up, only for God to take it, and deftly piece it together in its rightful place with a satisfying click.
Was especially humbled to have a few minutes to share briefly on brokenness and forgiveness to the broken families in church.. it was a message i could not offer a scant year ago, but now live with every day as my eyes are opened to so much more.
As always, it is the people that most touch the heart, have to mention..:
a word of kudos to pastor Tim, as we openely shared about how he identified with the search for fit to his 'SHAPE' and how he found fulfilment and 'came alive' as he leads the church...
his bright son, jeremy, at the ripe old age of 13, leading a cell of 20 youths assisted by a couple of teens.
the hungry rank and file of the church, how practically almost the whole church came forward at a call for prayer.
the being-used-out-of-proportion-ness of the little congregation, a small congregation of hardly a hundred and fifty, yet anchoring partnering to bring in teresa sepulis and rick warren, participating in GDOP, and more.
our team leader elder R... never heard him speak like before... given space and opportunity, how he shone as he led the team. i've just *never* seen him in that light before. as a leader, as a father, and simply, as a man.
as i might have mentioned... no particular burden for HK... but i must admit.. mission trips...
can be addictive... :p
